The Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards for 2012


‘Andhakaranazhi,’ written by E. Santhosh Kumar, has been selected as the best novel.
 The award for the best poem goes to ‘Uppante Kooval Varakkunnu,’ composed by S. Joseph.
 ‘Marimankanni,’ penned by M.N. Vinayakumar, has been chosen as the best drama of the year. 
‘Peramaram,’ written by Satheesh Babu Payyannur, has been selected as the best short story.

 R. Gopalakrishnan announced the awards . The awards carry a cash purse of Rs.25,000, a citation and a plaque each.


The awards in the other categories are as follows:
Literary criticism: ‘Pennezhuthunna Jeevitham’ by N.K. Ravindran; scholarly literature: ‘Samskaramudrakal’ by Naduvattom Gopalakrishnan; biography/autobiography: ‘Ente Pradakshina Vazhikal’ by S. Jayachandran Nair; travelogue: ‘Baltic Diary’ by Santhosh George Kulangara; translation: ‘Marubhoomi’ by S. Sreenivasan; Sree Padmanabhaswamy Award for children’s literature: ‘Kuttipattalathinte Kerala Paryadanam’ by N.P. Hafeez Mohammed; humour: ‘Oru Nano Kinavu’ by P.P. Hameed.
The following are the winners of various endowments: I.C. Chacko Award (Rs.2,000): V.K. Hariharanunnithan (‘Malayala Chinthakal’); C.B. Kumar Award (Rs.3,000): M. Mukundan (‘Adhunikatha Innevide?’); K.R. Namboodiri Award (Rs.2,000): V.S. Warrier (‘Sree Buddhan ¬ Jeevitham Darsanam Matham’); Kuttipuzha Award (Rs.2,000): K.E.N. Kunjahammed (‘Samooham, Sahityam, Samskaram’); Kanakasree Award (Rs.2,000): Prakasan Madikkai (‘Moonnu Kallukalkkidayil’); Geetha Hiranyan Award (Rs.5,000): G.R. Indugopan (‘Rathriyil Autoyil Oru Manushyan’); G.N. Pillai Award: N.P. Sajeesh (‘Drisya Desangalude Bhoopadam’).
